To launch Grants to Green, community foundations must be able to:

  • Identify an environmental partner who will offer expert energy assessments and technical advice to nonprofits
  • Implement the initiative for at least three years in order to see demonstrated success
  • Invest sufficient dollars to support administrative and operational costs
  • Provide funding to support matching implementation grants
  • Identify an advisory committee to help guide the initiative
  • Track impact in two key areas: (1) building data (utility consumption and monthly costs savings) via Energy STAR Portfolio Manager and (2) behavior changes
  • To measure national impact, link Energy STAR Portfolio Manager data with national Grants to Green data tracking
  • Provide education opportunities for Green Champions

Community foundations meeting these criteria are excellently positioned to bring Grants to Green to their communities.
